Relocation Guide Websites

Web Design & Development

Role: Art Director
Final Product: Multiple Websites

Overview

After five years of working with WebMedia Group (WMG), I was tasked with redesigning their relocation guide websites to align with the company’s updated brand identity. The existing sites were outdated, lacked mobile responsiveness, and presented information in a cluttered, unintuitive format. This project was an opportunity to modernize the digital experience, improve user navigation, and create a seamless connection between the brand’s print and online presence.

To stay ahead of web design trends, I took the initiative to expand my skills, learning Adobe XD and Figma for wireframing and prototyping. This allowed me to create a more efficient workflow and enhance collaboration with developers.

Challenge & Goals

The primary goal was to rebrand and rebuild the websites to match the refreshed print design while enhancing user experience and engagement. Each market-specific website needed to:

  • Provide localized content with articles and resources relevant to potential movers.
  • Improve user flow to help visitors easily navigate and find key information.
  • Increase conversions by strategically placing calls to action (CTAs) that encouraged users to request a relocation guide.
  • Enhance visual appeal with a structured yet dynamic layout that balanced content density with readability.

Approach & Process

To create consistency between print and digital, I structured the website content into seven key departmentsLive, Work, Play, Learn, Be Well, Retire, and Connect. I translated the vibrant color scheme from the print guides into the digital experience, using bold color blocking and micro-animations to add depth and interactivity.

Design & Development Workflow:

  1. Wireframing & Prototyping – Designed wireframes in Adobe XD and Figma, refining layout structures for improved user navigation.
  2. Collaboration with Developers – Partnered with a lead contract developer to implement the designs using WordPress and the DIVI builder.
  3. Hands-On Development – Learned DIVI’s module system to translate design elements into a functional, responsive website.
  4. Problem-Solving & Self-Learning – When faced with DIVI’s design limitations, I proactively researched solutions through tutorials and development forums, ensuring the final site met both aesthetic and functional requirements.

Outcome & Impact

  • Successfully redesigned seven relocation guide websites, creating a cohesive and engaging user experience across markets.
  • Increased site usability and mobile responsiveness, making it easier for visitors to access content on any device.
  • Strengthened my web development skills, gaining hands-on experience in WordPress and DIVI customization.
  • Helped WMG boost engagement and conversions by strategically integrating CTAs that encouraged relocation guide requests.

Reflection

This project solidified my passion for web design and development, bridging my print background with digital expertise. It reinforced my ability to adapt, problem-solve, and learn new tools—proving that with the right mindset (and a few YouTube tutorials), there’s no design challenge I can’t tackle.
